Pixel Tracking for Mobile Devices
The Mobile Advertising Solution’s pixel tracking (sometimes referred to as page tagging) capabilities enable customers to track visitor attributes and activities on specific web sites they do not own (with permission from the web site owners) by placing a 1x1 pixel on the website and recording activity as customized entries in log files. For some customers, these are sites that they may be planning to advertise with. Or they may already be running campaigns on the site and want to better understand detailed user activity on the site. For example, one solution provider uses this capability to create their own proprietary set of ratings for web sites to aid advertisers that want better control over where their ads appear. Another customer uses the solution to more accurately price ad inventory for its customers.
Customers can track specific actions (such as cookie values, referral URLs, device type, geolocation information, date, time, etc.) and write customized entries in log files that adhere to their own custom formatting requirements to simplify ETL processing for subsequent analyses. This is called behavioral tracking. Pixel tracking has a feature to update cookies in response to user actions, so the customer can keep track of what the user has done in the past, and use that information while processing requests.
