ATP World Tour Taps Mirror Image Internet to Attract More Web Traffic and Keep Visitors Engaged
Live Scoring Application Records Over 1 Billion Eyeball Minutes in 2009; on Track for 80 Percent Growth Over 2007 Numbers
Tewksbury, MA, July 20, 2009 - Mirror Image® Internet, a leading provider of content delivery solutions powered by a patented global network, today announced that ATP World Tour, the governing body of men's professional tennis circuits, is deploying Mirror Image Internet’s object caching and Adobe Flash services to increase traffic to the organizations’ Live Scoring application and extend the time visitors spend browsing the results of live tennis events.
A customer since 2005, the ATP World Tour website recently launched a Flash-based Live Scoring application allowing site visitors to track real-time scoring updates on 118 professional tennis events worldwide each year. To date, the application has exceeded 1.7 billion eyeball minutes over the course of this year, a number well ahead of minutes recorded during the same period of 2008 and on track for 80 percent growth over 2007 numbers related to eyeball minutes, page impressions and user sessions.
“Eyeball minutes- particularly in the competitive sports marketing industry- is one of our most important measurement tools. We needed the assurance that site visitors- no matter where they were logging on from or what content they were trying to access- would always be able to tap our site for real-time updates, without running into delays or downtime that would undoubtedly turn them away from the site,” said Murray B. Swartzberg, Senior Vice President of Information Technology at ATP World Tour. “With Mirror Image, we’ve been able to achieve significant growth through our live scoring application and now have the support of a proven CDN behind any new website initiative we want to put in place.”
By implementing Mirror Image’s technology, ATP is able to cost-effectively deliver content and accelerate a user’s experience on the site by offloading processing and protecting websites from traffic spikes and bandwidth strains. For websites (including those in the sports arena) that specifically rely on real-time updates around live events and a continuous refresh of live content, the support of a reliable CDN can ensure that a website is always accessible and ready to go anytime, anywhere.
“With traffic originating from around the globe and the potential to spike quickly around matches, it was necessary for ATP to have the capacity to handle traffic on the fly, 24-7,” said James Hart, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Mirror Image. “Our object caching and Flash solutions allow the ATP World Tour Live Scoring application to manage high volume seamlessly and ensure that visitors will never experience downtime whenever or wherever they are accessing live match scores. Ultimately, this is the value proposition a CDN like Mirror Image brings to the table.”
