Supporting Young Journalists: Mirror Image Internet to Provide Enhanced Streaming Video and Ensure Website Support for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Student Awards Program

Leading Provider of Content Delivery Solutions to Deliver Content Support for National Student Television Award for Excellence

Tewksbury, MA and New York, NY – March 17, 2008 Mirror Image® Internet, a leading provider of content delivery solutions powered by a patented global network, today announced that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences ( NATAS), is applying the company’s Object Caching solution and streaming services to reliably deliver online content and ensure Web site performance during peak traffic periods for the National Student Television Award for Excellence, which honors the student with the best high school student video. Mirror Image will be streaming all the videos during the judging period. In addition Mirror Image will also host the national winning videos and promotional PSA videos that are always accessible by anyone visiting the site.

NATAS is the professional service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry, and is the organization responsible for the annual Emmy Awards.

Now in its fifth year, The National Student Television Award for Excellence (NSTV) was developed by the NATAS to serve its larger mission of promoting excellence in broadcasting. The award, which is under The Foundation of NATAS, the organization’s non-profit foundation, is designed to promote "best practices" of broadcast journalism and is aimed at high school age students whose work has been broadcast, cablecast or webcast.  Sponsoring organizations such as after-school programs, high schools and community-based arts programs are all eligible for the award and entries are entered and judged online. Regional winners are eligible for a national award in each category.

In the fall of 2007, NATAS began a search for a solution that could effectively support Web site guests and conduct the streaming of student videos and host static content, especially during peak periods. Typically the NSTV competition hosts on average 10GB worth of data each year and streams approximately 2-3 terabytes. The awards will be announced on May 9th, 2008, at the Marriott hotel on Michigan Ave in Chicago.

NATAS selected Mirror Image’s Global Content Caching solution and streaming services to be the exclusive content delivery provider of NSTV to reliably deliver content and provide the best possible experience for site visitors. The solution offloads processing and protects Web sites from traffic spikes by leveraging Mirror Image’s global Content Access Point® (CAP) network to ensure optimal performance.

Av Westin, Executive Director of the NATAS Foundation which supervises the National Student Television called Mirror Image’s support “a major step in facilitating the participation of students and judges throughout the country. We expect to see many more high school entrants and many more broadcast professionals join in the exciting competition for the National Student Award for Excellence now that Mirror Image technology is available.”

“We are happy to support the NSTV Student Award for Excellence, as it represents the importance of education and the support of future leaders in the broadcast community,” said Gustav Vik, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mirror Image. “With our deep expertise in media support, we look forward to being the exclusive provider of system storage for NSTV.”
